Hello there! My name is Cate. Thanks for heading over to Feeling Full, where I talk about food on the internet!
I am a Registered Dietitian (RD), and am also studying to become a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I’ve worked on organic farms, in cafes and bakeries, as well as in hospitals, health centers, soup kitchens, and food pantries. For over two years, I was the manager of a WIC clinic, a nutrition program that serves low-income women and children.
Why Feeling Full?
My many experiences have taught me that when we talk about food, we are also talking about social justice, climate change, world hunger, gender issues, and worker’s rights, among many other issues. I named this blog Feeling Full because I aim to talk fully about food, which also means talking about the hard stuff that comes along with it.
And when we think about nutrition, oftentimes we think about weight loss, and forget that eating is about health- and true health incorporates many different parts of our life- and its much more than how we eat or exercise. These days, being at war with your body is normal, and that is NOT healthy.
I think stressing about “eating clean” is probably worse for you than eating a cookie. I think cooking, moving, and eating more plants are the building blocks of good health, and this looks different for everyone. My goal as a nutrition professional is to teach others how to feel full with both food and life.
My personal interests include cooking, running, reading, watching silly you tube videos, writing poetry, baking cookies, hiking, signing/songwriting, gardening, yoga, and getting lost in Google Maps (go on and Google Map Northern Canada, you won’t regret it).
I love hearing from people, so go on over to my contact page if you want to drop me a line. If you are interested in learning more about nutrition, food, farming, or breastfeeding and how to get involved in these spaces, feel free to send me any questions, or head over to my resources page.
